Korea Cherry Blossom Festival Guide 2026: Best Spots and When to Go

I planned my trip around the cherry blossoms. My friends thought I was being dramatic.

They were wrong.

I arrived in Jinhae on a Saturday morning in late March, and the entire city had turned pink overnight. Every street, every canal, every path between buildings — lined with trees in full bloom. People walked slowly, not because they had to, but because rushing felt wrong. Like skipping pages in a book you've been waiting to read.

I sat by the Yeojwacheon Stream for two hours doing nothing except watching petals fall into the water. A child next to me kept trying to catch them. Her grandmother kept laughing. I kept taking photos I knew wouldn't do it justice.

Cherry blossom season in Korea isn't just beautiful. It's brief — sometimes less than two weeks at each location. And that's exactly the point. The Japanese call it mono no aware — the bittersweet awareness that beautiful things don't last. Koreans feel it too. They just show up anyway, every year, and look up.

So should you.

Korea Cherry Blossom Festival Guide 2026: Best Spots and When to Go

Spring in Korea is not just a season — it is an event. Every year, millions of travelers from around the world time their visits to coincide with Korea's legendary cherry blossom season, and with good reason. The combination of stunning natural beauty, vibrant festivals, and iconic cultural backdrops makes Korean cherry blossom season one of the most spectacular travel experiences in all of Asia. If you are planning to visit Korea in spring 2026, here is everything you need to know about when and where to catch the blossoms at their absolute best.

I booked my Jinhae accommodation four months in advance and still only got the last available room. It was worth every bit of planning — and every bit of the crowds.

진해 군항제 / Jinhae Gunhangje Festival

The Jinhae Gunhangje Festival is the crown jewel of Korea's cherry blossom season and one of the largest spring festivals in the entire country. Held annually in Jinhae, South Gyeongsang Province, the festival draws over three million visitors during its ten-day run, transforming this quiet port city into a breathtaking pink wonderland.

The undisputed highlight of the festival is Yeojwacheon Stream, a narrow waterway lined on both sides with hundreds of cherry trees whose arching branches meet overhead to create a tunnel of soft pink blossoms. Walking through this tunnel — especially in the early morning light or under the festival's evening illuminations — is one of the most magical experiences Korea has to offer. The festival also features traditional music performances, military band parades, food stalls, and cultural exhibitions that celebrate the city's naval history.

In 2026, Jinhae is expected to reach full bloom around late March to early April. Given the enormous popularity of the festival, booking accommodation well in advance — ideally two to three months ahead — is strongly recommended.

Yeouido Spring Flower Festival, Seoul

For those visiting Seoul, the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival is the city's premier cherry blossom event. Held along Yeouiseo-ro street and the surrounding Yeouido Park area on the banks of the Han River, the festival transforms one of Seoul's busiest districts into a stunning outdoor gallery of cherry blossoms.

The combination of cherry trees in full bloom, the wide Han River, and the Seoul skyline creates a uniquely urban cherry blossom experience that is unlike anything else in Korea. The festival area is easily accessible by subway, and the nearby Han River Park offers the perfect spot to lay down a picnic mat, open a bottle of makgeolli, and enjoy the blossoms in true Korean style.

Seoul's cherry blossoms are expected to reach full bloom around April 7-8 in 2026, making early to mid-April the ideal time to visit the capital for blossom viewing.

Best timing 2026: Jinhae late March, Seoul and Gyeongju early April, Jeju slightly earlier. Entry: Jinhae Gunhangje Festival free. Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival free. Pro tip: Book accommodation at least 6–8 weeks in advance for festival weekends — rooms in Jinhae sell out months ahead. A day trip from Busan is a popular alternative.

Cherry Blossoms at Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul

For a cherry blossom experience that combines natural beauty with Korean history and culture, Gyeongbokgung Palace is unmatched. The cherry trees lining the palace walls and the surrounding Bukchon Hanok Village area burst into bloom each spring, creating a scene where 600-year-old royal architecture and delicate pink blossoms exist in perfect harmony.

The most popular activity at Gyeongbokgung during blossom season is renting a hanbok — Korea's traditional dress — and strolling through the palace grounds and nearby Bukchon alleyways while the trees are in full bloom. Visitors wearing hanbok receive free entry to the palace, making it both a cultural and a budget-friendly experience. The combination of flowing hanbok, ancient palace walls, and cherry blossoms makes for photographs that are nothing short of stunning.

Gyeongbokgung is easily accessible from central Seoul and is open daily except Tuesdays. Arriving early in the morning is strongly recommended during blossom season, as the palace can become extremely crowded by midday.

Tips for Planning Your Cherry Blossom Trip

Korea's cherry blossom season is beautiful but brief, and popular destinations fill up fast. Book accommodation at least two months in advance for Jinhae, and at least four to six weeks ahead for Seoul during peak blossom season. Follow the Korea Meteorological Administration's annual cherry blossom forecast for the most accurate bloom date predictions. Visit popular spots early in the morning to avoid crowds, and consider weekday visits over weekends when possible. Most importantly — embrace the spontaneity of blossom season. Sometimes the most magical cherry blossom moments happen not at the famous spots, but on an ordinary street corner where a single tree is blooming perfectly, and nobody else is watching.
