The Day My Company Made Me Get a Health Check and I Spent 6 Hours in a Hospital

My coworker said “You have a health check tomorrow.”

I said “I’m not sick.”

She said “Doesn’t matter. Everyone does it. Company pays.”

I thought “Free checkup? Easy.” I was so wrong.

I Showed Up at 8 AM and They Took My Blood Immediately

I got there. 8 AM. Still half asleep.

A nurse handed me a gown. Said “Change.”

I changed. Came out. Another nurse was waiting. With a needle.

She said “Arm.” I gave her my arm. She took my blood. Just like that. No coffee. No breakfast. No warning.

I was awake now.

Then they gave me a cup. Said “Bathroom.” I understood that one.

I Went Through 10 Rooms and Forgot Why I Was There

After the blood, they gave me a paper. With a map. And numbers.

Room 1: Height. Weight.
Room 2: Eyes. Read letters.
Room 3: Ears. Beep beep.
Room 4: X-ray. Hold breath.
Room 5: Ultrasound. Cold gel.

By Room 6 I forgot my name.

By Room 8 I was wearing paper shoes. And a paper gown. Holding a paper cup.

A nurse would grab my paper, stamp it, and point: “Next!”

I felt like I was in the world’s most organized escape room. Except the prize was finding out if my organs work.

I saw the same people from my office. Also in gowns. Also lost. We made eye contact. No one waved. Too tired.

I Got Lunch at the Hospital and It Was Actually Good

12 PM. A nurse stamped my paper for the last time. Said “Finished. Lunch.”

They pointed to a cafeteria. In the hospital.

I was suspicious. Hospital food = bad. Everywhere.

I got a tray. Rice. Soup. Like 6 side dishes.

I took a bite. It was… good? Like, really good? Better than my usual lunch?

I ate everything. Looked around. Everyone else in gowns was also eating. In silence. Like we survived something together.

I almost asked for seconds. Then remembered I was in a hospital. Felt weird.

I Got My Results and Understood 3 Words

Two weeks later. Email came.

I opened the PDF. 10 pages. Graphs. Numbers. Red marks. Blue marks.

I scrolled. Fast.

I understood 3 words: “Normal.” “Normal.” “Normal.”

At the bottom it said “See you next year.”

I closed the laptop. Drank water. Decided I’m healthy. Because the paper said “Normal.”

I don’t know what half the tests were. Don’t care. I survived the 6-hour hospital tour. That’s my health check.

Summary

I thought a health check was 10 minutes with a doctor.

Turns out it’s 6 hours. In a gown. Going room to room. Getting your blood taken before coffee. And the hospital lunch is better than my lunch.

📌 Things I Noticed

  • It’s not optional: Your company just tells you to go. You go. Like a field trip for adults.
  • Don’t eat breakfast: They will take your blood immediately. I learned this the hard way.
  • If you’re new: Wear socks with no holes. You’ll be taking your shoes off 10 times. And the hospital gown is not warm.

This is just what happened to me. I don’t know what a health check is for. I’m not a doctor. Don’t ask me to read your results. I can barely read my own. I just know it takes all day and the lunch is decent.
